How Much Is Patch Tuesday Costing Your IT Team?

Posted by TJ Racherla on Oct 22, 2015

In 2003, Microsoft began regularly releasing security patches for Windows on the second Tuesday of each month - an event that became known as Patch Tuesday. In addition to the dozen Tuesdays each year, emergency “out-of-band” (OOB) patches can be released by Microsoft at any time. A few patches every month doesn’t sound so bad ... until you realize there is a serious problem that makes Patch Tuesday suck IT resources the way a Hoover eats dust. That problem is image sprawl.

Physicians Save 45 Mins/Day With VDI

Posted by TJ Racherla on Oct 7, 2015

One of our healthcare customers, North Bend Medical Center, has been in the news again. After they shared their progress transitioning from a traditional PC environment to VDI almost a year ago, they made headlines more recently as the subject of a case study by healthcare publication Health IT Outcomes. In the story “Physicians Save 45 Minutes Per Day With Virtual Infrastructure”, North Bend Medical Center explained how their virtual desktop and application management solution from Unidesk and single sign-on solution from Imprivata have improved care provider productivity and reduced IT support requirements - saving up to 45 minutes per day per physician!

We love to hear about our customers' desktop transformation journeys and share proof points of their success. Here are some of the best quotes on Unidesk and Imprivata from the case study and webinar by North Bend Systems Architect and VDI Technical Lead Joshua Rabe and CTO Doug McLeod.

Agentless Management with Unidesk and 5nine Software

Posted by TJ Racherla on Oct 6, 2015

Before we attended the Microsoft MVPDays events in Canada with several of our new Microsoft Hyper-V ecosystem partners, we held a joint webinar with one of them - 5nine Software. 5nine is a fast-growing provider of virtual firewall, antivirus, and intrusion detection solutions. One thing Unidesk and 5nine have in common is agentless management, a key requirement for virtualized environments and workloads like VDI. Here's a short recap of what was discussed in the webinar about why agentless matters.

3 Financial Services Firms Get VDI Right on the Money

Posted by TJ Racherla on Sep 23, 2015

The financial services industry operates under constant regulatory pressures. Yet it needs to be agile enough to respond to client needs and rapidly changing market conditions. The ability to function with quick turnaround times, capitalize on opportunities, and provide end user computing resources in a highly secure and reliable fashion is why more banks and credit unions are moving to Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). This is why we're excited to spotlight 3 of them in the next episode of our VDI customer success webinar series.

VDI Webinar: Montgomery County Brings App Mobility to 3,000 Users

Posted by TJ Racherla on Aug 27, 2015

Customer success and satisfaction is at the heart of what we do at Unidesk. We believe that regularly featuring our customers' VDI journeys will not only educate other IT professonals who are exploring innovative technologies for Windows app mobility but also help them learn from each other as they implement desktop and application virtualization.

That's why we're so excited about our next customer webinar with Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Deploying VDI at scale is always of interest. Our webinar with Sunrise Health has been one of our most widely-watched customer webinars on-demand largely because it is a 3,000 user deployment. Like Sunrise Health, Montgomery County is deploying 3,000 desktops to its employees. As the third largest county in Pennsylvania and home to major employers in the pharmaceutical, banking, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors, they are turning to the combination of Unidesk, VMware Horizon View, and Tintri to improve service delivery and IT efficiency.

VDI With Hyper-V Gets Easier And Better

Posted by TJ Racherla on Aug 20, 2015

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) has traditionally been more costly to implement than buying new PCs, preventing organizations from taking advantage of the mobility, security, and productivity advantages.

Microsoft VDI on Hyper-V is half the cost of VMware, making virtual desktops even cheaper than PC refresh. But many think Hyper-V still lags behind VMware technically. As the EBook, 7 Reasons Why VDI with Hyper-V and RDS is Poised for Takeoff explains, that's no longer the case. Here are two more examples from our Technical Blog explaining why Hyper-V may actually be surpassing VMware vSphere when it comes to hosting virtual desktop workloads.

This is part 1 of a 3-part series.

We recently highlighted best practices for VDI deployments in higher education by hosting a “roundtable” of IT managers from William Woods University (WWU), SUNY Binghamton, University of New Haven (UNH), and Rivier University.

We had so much audience interaction that we decided to pick a few of the big questions that were asked by attendees and share the answers from our expert panel. VDI printing issues seem to come up in all of our webinars, so today we'll answer "How do you make VDI printing in schools easy?"
