The news is out - Unidesk® 2.0 will be launched next week at VMworld 2012 in San Francisco! The only way to bring full desktop layering to Citrix XenDesktop® and VMware View™ is about to get even better. More fault tolerant. Faster. More storage flexibility. Easier to install and configure. Read our press release for details and customer reactions.
For those of you who are new to Unidesk, our desktop layering technology for VDI is being used by hundreds of View and XenDesktop customers to:
- Simplify app packaging and delivery (replacing ThinApp and App-V app virtualization)
- Minimize gold image sprawl caused by diverse pool and desktop configurations (replacing View Composer and Citrix Provisioning Server)
- Create storage-efficient persistent desktops that finally sustain user-installed apps (replacing Linked Clones and profile management).
- Manage virtual desktops with a complete, unified solution, rather than 5-7 different consoles.
Our patent-pending N-layer™ technology is still the centerpiece of 2.0. And still light years ahead of the competition. Unlike one or two layer technologies, Unidesk lets IT quickly create desktops from the same OS layer and any combination of core, departmental, and user-installed app layers. The ability to package all apps as discrete layers makes it easy to satisfy different departments and users - just assign the app layers they need. The granularity and flexibility offered by N layers also lets you avoid gold image proliferation, as well as the cost, time, and expertise previously required to virtualize applications. Both have been significant barriers to broader View and XenDesktop adoption.
So what's in the new major release? Advanced VMware vSphere® Hypervisor integrations greatly improve fault tolerance and performance of Unidesk layered desktops. Enhancements to our user layer snapshots and restore point automation enable super-efficient desktop backup and effortless desktop repair and recovery. Storage tiers give you new ways to optimize IOPS, cost, and performance. Installation wizards take more of the guesswork out of implementing VDI, and get you from 0 to fully configured and provisioned virtual desktops in minutes.
As we continue our countdown to Unidesk 2.0 general availability, our Solution Architects will blog more details about each of our new features. They'll explain what they are, why they're important, and why they'll make your lives easier. After all, that's really what we're about - helping IT spend less time on desktop provisioning, app delivery, image management, and break/fix, and more time enjoying life. Hence the beach scene above, which is the theme of our VMworld booth this year - "Simplify Desktop Management. Gain Control of View and XenDesktop. Get Your Life Back."
If you're going to be in San Fran at VMworld, visit us in Booth 2425 to see live demos of Unidesk 2.0. And talk real VDI with the 10 Unidesk and View/XenDesktop customers who will be helping staff our booth. See you there!
